Biggest news of the day, Tom Scott was in Lake Geneva! ...luckily for him not literally "in". Come east a few miles to Kenosha, and I'll buy you a beer Tom youtube.com/watch?v=2vd8Wf…

Whoah, a The University of Chicago handle just mentioned me in a tweet. That might just be the coolest thing to ever happen to me! <my kids walk into room> ok top 3 at least... (Thanks Stigler Center)

Yes! JAMRS data shows that up to 80% of recruits come from families with military service. That makes the "propensed" talent pool small and shrinking. Cannot recruit your way out of that; need big ideas like more opptys to go to civilian workforce and come back later etc.

Very cool to see the ChatGPT-generated resolutions from Rep. Ted Lieu and Rep. Jake Auchincloss 🟧 but we can go even further. AI review of legislation could help cut down on errors e.g. ~18,000 duplicate sections of CFR or simulate complex policy issues. More ideas: www2.deloitte.com/us/en/insights…

Not sure how you do it Brian Kerg but another great useful fiction piece! One idea though: there is a distinction between grand ideas as master narrative (say for global influence) and grand ideals as enacted in an org's culture. Both are important but can (should?) be different

Editing a lot of professional writing, I find a big problem is authors trying to share their big ideas versus answering readers' problems. Useful fiction experts, do you find fiction forces an author to be more empathetic to an audience? Peter W. Singer Brian Kerg August Cole

Joseph Mariani (@joseph_mariani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

100% agree! Jeannie Johnson was my masters advisor, and I learned a lot about how to think about org culture from her (I think some of my silly stories are even in the book somewhere)

This is excellent! I also love air crash documentaries because a good crash investigation seems to follow a similar path to good intelligence analysis

There's been so much talk about US decoupling supply chains from China, maybe it's time to talk about China's "digital decoupling" from rest of the world

I've ordered my copy of Littoral Commander, now I just need to figure out how to play a board game with players spread across 3 time zones on two continents. Any ideas Sebastian Bae?

I had never seen this clip, but it's great. Aside from amphibious readiness, as Adam Routh says it also touches on the need for greater enlisted education - not just training - to create "efficient, organized, sensitive" Marines.

Joseph Mariani (@joseph_mariani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This stopped by scrolling dead. We often ascribe the same trend defense to DoD being inefficient, but if it's in movies as well, maybe it's more basic - something with Clay Christensen-style "performance overshoot" Adam Routh we should dig into this!

Joseph Mariani (@joseph_mariani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This comes up every few years. The fact that the GCT hasn't changed in decades allows for these comparisons, but it's also the problem. We are not measuring "intelligence" we are just measuring a specific set of skills, some of which aren't taught much anymore (eg long division)

I've never willingly paid money for a t-shirt before, but when I see the spirit of Oceanside captured in cotton, I have to have it! Maximilian Uriarte you are an evil genius.
