What gets lost in the process? Intrinsic motivation. Resilience. The capacity to explore, to fail, to get back up. Kids become performers for adults, ticking boxes rather than lighting fires. They learn to achieve, but not necessarily to care.

Performance used to mean something. It was about doing the work. Stepping into the arena and finding out what you were made of. Somewhere along the way, “performance” stopped meaning performing. It became a brand. A vibe. A marketing slogan. We lost the plot.
