A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 11 PM for far NW Oscoda County and Northern Alcona County. Golf ball sized hail and torrential rain is possible with this storm.

These thunderstorms on the east side of the state have been thriving the past 3-4 hours. Some hen egg sized hail has fallen in parts of Alpena and Alcona counties along with torrential rain. These will diminish as we get past midnight.

It's possible (but not a certainty) that the Northern Lights may peek out Monday night. Skies will be clear over Northern Michigan if they do materialize.

A look at precipitation (rain/melted snow) so far this year since January 1st. These are the main Climate Sites for Northern Michigan. Everyone is above average. Alpena almost exactly on target. Notice Sault Ste. Marie is a whopping 9+ inches above normal.

The ISS (International Space Station) will soar over this evening starting at 8:56 p.m. Eastern Time. Look at that time in the southwest sky.

The weekend forecast. A few showers Saturday morning will end. It remains warm and quiet for the most part.

The Thursday forecast. Cooler north with 60's to mid-80's south around Big Rapids as a cold front passes.

The last weekend of summer. Better chance for rain arrives Saturday night into Sunday.

The International Space Station will soar over Northern Michigan this evening and will be as about bright as it gets (-3.8) magnitude. Skies should clear out for most spots. Look to the WNW sky around 8:52 p.m.

This was a gorgeous sunrise Monday morning looking over Lake Charlevoix (you can see it on the left side). Taken by Nate Hector of Central Lake who said this was the view outside of his shop.

Rain totals for September. Everyone ran a deficit although Sault Ste. Marie fared better than others. Alpena had the 4th driest September on record (dating back to 1917). The dry stretch will carry on at least through the upcoming weekend.
