These thunderstorms on the east side of the state have been thriving the past 3-4 hours. Some hen egg sized hail has fallen in parts of Alpena and Alcona counties along with torrential rain. These will diminish as we get past midnight.

A look at precipitation (rain/melted snow) so far this year since January 1st. These are the main Climate Sites for Northern Michigan. Everyone is above average. Alpena almost exactly on target. Notice Sault Ste. Marie is a whopping 9+ inches above normal.

Rain totals for September. Everyone ran a deficit although Sault Ste. Marie fared better than others. Alpena had the 4th driest September on record (dating back to 1917). The dry stretch will carry on at least through the upcoming weekend.
