Punishment to Public Health (P2PH) "Reintegration vs. reentry". Keynote speaker Dr. H Jean Wright II Dr. H. Jean Wright nychealthy underscores the importance of language in communicating to people about the work and the value of a public behavioral health focus on serving justice-involved people.


Dr. H. Jean Wright Since 2016, the % of people receiving mental health services in jail has increased by ~32%. This increase could be due to many factors but the underlying implication is we need to continue to invest in services for people who are currently in custody, but also after the fact.


In panel 1, Kendall Sullivan from CASES NYC, Zakiya Rose NYS OASAS, Toni Mardirossian Alvin Bragg, & Aisha Greene Queens DA Katz discuss health care access opportunities within the courts, the challenges, gaps, and needs that agencies are meeting, & the services they provide.


Panel 2 dives into complex & often overlooked intersections of healthcare & the cj system. Sumeet Sharma Correctional Association of New York, Michael Matteo NYC Health + Hospitals, Mervin Otero Osborne Association & Trevor Cummings from NYC Health Justice Network discuss the health burden faced by incarcerated ppl.

12 years ago today, we were shocked by the Sandy Hook massacre. Countless innocent lives were lost due to senseless violence.
