The most welcoming wave in North Carolina this morning. Yancey County Schools are back after over 7 weeks out due to the impacts of Helene, they are the last traditional public school district to return. Doug Thomas, a bus driver & custodian, says this is best job I’ve ever had.

As I wrap up my time serving at NCDPI in January, I have been looking back at photos I took over the years. Such wonderful memories! This is Franklin High grads walking the halls at Cartoogechaye Elementary in Macon County April 2019 (think this was my first school visit w/ DPI).

Was grateful to spend one of my final days on the job at NCDPI behind the wheel of a school bus after touring the amazing Thomas Built Buses plant! From the day bus 87 pulled up to take me to elementary school in 1st grade to now, the school bus has symbolized opportunity for me!
