A Cockroach found in a shipment of statues at work yesterday- still alive but only just! Anyone any idea of species? Not sure if it is a native ond or not...

Totals for me this year: Moths- 903 (best ever)! Worcs county birds- 180 Grimley- 135 Upton -125 Butterflies-48 Odonata- 30 Perhaps i can make 1000+ moths next year! :) Happy New Year to everyone :)

Just had 3 days in Norfolk- 110 species seen :) Highlights inc. Red-breasted Goose at Cley, Glossy Ibis at Stiffkey, Pallid and Hen Harriers and Short-eared and Barn Owls at Warham Greens, Shorelark Holkham, all 3 divers, plenty of seaducks, geese and waders :)

Good flight views of the juv Glaucous Gull at Throckmorton-was over the tip the whole time. Also adult Yellow-Legged Gull, 1st winter GBBG, 2 Red Kites and several Ravens :)

A visit to Parkend in the Forest Of Dean this afternoon was rewarded with good views of 2 Hawfinches ground feeding adjacent to the cricket pitch. A showy pair of Mandarins on Cannop Ponds on the way back-even got a phone pic! Lots of Wild Boar diggings on the roadsides :p

WAXWING on the garden list!! 5 just now flew over and are now in trees around the playpark feeding on a large Cotoneaster covered in berries :) Blackcap earlier singing along Wilden Lane - surely a winterer given the date! :)

The 5 Waxwings still present from the house this morning, and then incredibly had another 26 birds at work at Webbs Hagley about 4pm-on Mistletoe-then chased off by a Mistle Thrush! Flew towards Hagley village :)

Female Scaup still at Aqualate Mere this morning-but distant- probably one of the furthest birds from the hide!!

At Grimley this morning- male Redstart and male Yellow Wagtail Church Farm, 2 Reed Warblers Camp Lane Pits, pair of Mandarin over Wildgoose the pick of the bunch! :)

A great morning at Grimley from 8am- 80 species including 9 warbler sp, Greenshank still Wagon Wheel Flood, Wheatear at Holt, both egrets, pair of Stonechat Church Farm, plus Brown Hare Retreat Farm fields :)

The 2nd Dark Sword-Grass for the garden was a nice find in the trap this morning :)

Great afternoon at Cleeve Hill between showers- good numbers of Adonis Blues and Marsh Frits out , tons of Small Blues, Five Spot Burnets and Brown Argus. 1 battered Duke and small numbers of Common Blue, Dingy Skipper and Cistus Forester. Pic of Marsh Fritillary :)

Anyone know if Chequered Skipper has been seen at Fineshades Wood this year yet? :)

16 species of butterfly at Tiddesley Wood today inc. 4 Purple Emperor, 4 White -Letter Hairstreaks, 3 Purple Hairstreaks, Silver-Washed Fritillary and White Admiral. More White- Letters at Burlish Meadows, plus Small and Essex Skippers, both Burnets and Six-Belted Clearwing :)
