October's decoration shows two festival goers with a mikoshi, a palanquin with a deity enshrined inside. The mikoshi is used to transport the deity. Festivals in October that involve a mikoshi include Nada no Kenka in Himeji, Hyōgo, and Ueno Tenjin Festival in Iga, Mie.

Mikke-chan (みっけちゃん) is a mascot from Hirakata City, Osaka Prefecture. She is a calico cat that was found at Katano Tenjin Shrine who now acts as a shrine maiden and performs ballet. She also works to bring awareness to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & sign language. #MascotMonday

Chameshi is a dish popular in Fukui, although it is said to originate from Nara. It consists of rice that has been boiled in tea and seasoned with soy sauce & sake. Originally made for Buddhist ceremonies, it is now eaten during various events & at restaurants. #FoodieFriday
