The Earl of Mar, the Hereditary Keeper of the Castle, opening the gates 👀🏰🗝

His family has a long association with the Castle. In 1567 the then Earl of Mar was trusted with the upbringing of King James VI after the abdication of Mary, Queen of Scots.

The North Gate is one of the oldest standing parts of the castle 🏰

The Nether Bailey, tucked behind the Great Hall and accessed through the North Gate is well worth the visit as it offers spectacular, panoramic views of the beautiful countryside 🌄

At 9am, the castle gates will open with the Earl of Mar, a piper, banners and living history performers, before the castle opens at 9.30am.

Q2 Now that spring has well and truly sprung, we're spending as much time as we're able to in our Queen Anne Garden.

You can hear about his mark on the Kingdom of the Scots & the earliest recorded history of Stirling Castle at a talk today in the King's Old Building at 11.30am!
