The idea that this country can do this every day for another 17 months until the mid-terms is insanely wrong. It's a stupid strategy. The damage that is being done is foundational. It will not go back with the press of a button. Many of the changes will take years to repair.

“The entire MAGA campaign was a fraud. We got duped. Feels horrible.” Again, this was very obvious beforehand given Trump’s extensively documented history as a deeply unprincipled and selfish braggart. But good on you for recognizing it finally and welcome to the opposition!

Many economists believe the weakness of govt is that they are likely to do things people want, derailing outcomes from an 'optimum' only they understand. And that's despite the fact ruling parties often hold on stubbornly to unpopular positions, as they crash through the polls.

I'm seeing more and more of this right now, which is interesting (just in volume on my X feed, and a tiny bit among personal friends). But... I'm always just struck by the *what did you think he meant* question. None of the actions here are really a departure from past actions.

I do not like the way Bernie Sanders consistently focus on Benjamin Netanyahu and won’t say Israel. He can say, America, he can say, Mexico, he can say Germany, China, and Russia. Why won’t he mention Israel?

I am a progressively-minded liberal in that I passionately believe in doing good things when they are politically unfeasible and fiercely resist those same things the moment they're actually on the table

The scariest part about Lander being arrested is that we can all see what happened. We can hear him asking to see a warrant and not resisting. We can all see a bunch of guys without badges wearing masks arresting him. It's scary because we can see it all and they don't even care.

“Abolish ICE” is the moderate position. The radical position is to abolish it, completely dismantle the infrastructure that made it possible, grant full citizenship to those it targeted, and put its architects and enablers on Nuremberg-style trials.

Naively, I thought the recent purge of hawks & appt of non-interventionists was a positive sign. But the fundamental problem has always been Trump himself: insecure, indecisive, easily manipulated, and never actually committed to an antiwar position except in campaign speeches.

New Yorkers don't want war with Iran, or for ICE to kidnap Brad Lander. That's why Mamdani is doing so well too, he represents a more civilized vibe than Cuomo, who volunteered to be Netanyahu's lawyer, or Eric Adams, also a huge embarrassment for New Yorkers and Democrats.

For people calling what Brad Lander did today a stunt: (1) He does weekly shifts at immigration court - that's just who Brad is. (2) Even if it was a stunt, who cares? We want politicians to put their bodies on the line & draw attention to what Trump's admin is doing!
