Tropical Storm #Melissa forms in the central Caribbean Sea. With winds estimated at 45kt (50mph), Melissa possesses the look of a sheared, disorganized storm, because - well - it is one. This should, however, change and the NHC expects a hurricane. Very uncertain forecast though.

The sun rises over Category 5 Hurricane #Melissa, which is now the strongest storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. It's the season's 3rd Category 5 hurricane, only the 2005 season had more (Emily, Katrina, Rita and Wilma) and no other seasons had more than 2. Impressive.

RECORD! With WV temperature of -8.01*C, Hurricane #Melissa's eye is the driest ever recorded in the Atlantic. The previous record holder was Hurricane #Erin which occurred earlier this year, at -8.05*C.

UPDATE: New recon data suggests #Melissa is still strengthening, with 161kt flight-level winds and 906mb pressure being reported. What's more, the hurricane's eye dried even more, peaking at -5.21*C!

Oh. My. God. Hurricane #Melissa has just broken the record for the driest eye ever observed in a tropical cyclone. -4.75*C.

Hurricane #Melissa has just been upgraded to 160kt/892mb. This ties it for the 2nd fastest wind speeds recorded in the Atlantic, and ties it for 3rd in terms of lowest pressure.
