Eleven years ago today, near the bottom of the worst recession in generations, I signed the Recovery Act, paving the way for more than a decade of economic growth and the longest streak of job creation in American history.

The government seems to be confused about what ‘economically inactive’ people are doing. Many are very active such as looking after children, other dependents and their home, or as students. Others are long-term sick or retired. Priti Patel wants to ‘skill them up’ - nonsense.

So if the New York antibody survey is correct, it looks as though the mortality rate from #Covid19 is nearer 0.5% than 1%, if the published death toll is accurate. Lots of big ifs there. But what do epidemiologists and professional statisticians think?

The mainstream neo-Keynesian macroeconomics of the 1960s is not a useful guide for understanding a US economy that has become fully enmeshed with the rest of the world and fundamentally reshaped by China’s rise, argues James K. Galbraith. bit.ly/3mdNz3k

So my unvaccinated friend died in a ventilator at 330am today - extremely sad - but what is interesting is all the anti vaxxers accusing me of lying or somehow trying to scare people. I blocked most of them - but of course that leaves them in their own happy echo chamber. Ends.
