#WalkingTheCity this afternoon was on bus to Steeles and Jane, then rode down to Lakeshore. Listening, learning, sharing. I’ll do as mayor, every week a community meeting in diff ward on Mondays with the Mayor.

There’s nothing dull about Gil Penalosa’s rare candidacy, or his energizer bunny intensity campaign, Toronto. If the election feels “dull,” it’s because the incumbent hid, & the media played along by constantly insisting no-one could beat him. This is why Toronto doesn’t improve.

#WalkingTheCity listening, learning, sharing. Many times to each ward, all. Tory has many professional pollsters and robo-calling to learn what people want. I go with boards and ask them… grassroots campaigns are more fun & engaging in a #Toronto4Everyone.

Vote like if you or a loved one’s depended on it, because it could. SAFE streets, doable, but past 8 yrs has been huge failure. I’ll reduce speeds citywide in neighborhood streets to 30kph max, fix top 100 most dangerous intersections, eliminate billboards…in a #Toronto4Everyone

Ending the campaign as it started, #WalkingTheCity listening, learning, sharing. Now at Trinity Bellwoods, people want affordable housing and wine/beer in the parks which I’ll allow in 1st 100 days (Tory promised 2014, 2018…). VOTE #Gil4Mayor.

Urgency to stop sprawl, eating up agri-land to build single family housing. Greater Toronto GTHA can easily fit ALL pop growth by just densifying big roads, arterials, 5-13 storeys. Sprawl only benefits land owners (multiplies values w change use) & hurts everyone. It’s criminal.

A composite image from this morning's eclipse showing the moon in various stages throughout the night. The size and shape of Earth's shadow is clearly visible here. These events are absolutely magical to witness and quite surreal.

Not just a housing crisis, a community crisis. Ontario needs to build 1.5 million homes, but NOT anywhere. Must be radically different than mostly mediocre / horror past 60 years. Let's build ALL in existing footprint, neighbourhood-cities, good for environment, health, econ-dev.

With 5 - 8 floors on arterials, City can double population, and NOT one meter of sprawl needed. Additional density offers critical mass needed to have better public transit, walk to shops, restaurants... to all people on arterials and in between. Watch bit.ly/3E9qkku

Final. Doug Ford is correct that Ontario needs 1.5 million homes, and that the previous Liberals failed, as did mayors & councils in GTHA. Solution is to build all units, but in the right place, where we already have services. Focus on affordability, equity, and sustainability.

This is so big, so bad, so critical for next 100s of years, that everyone who cares about GTHA Toronto, people, environment, ethics, law... must say/act. 3 levels of gov., civic leaders, media, People. Protection of Greenbelt linked w potentially huge corruption, must be stopped.

It’s wrong. And not just because it is so corrupt. It’s a bad idea to pave over farmland and wild space for badly designed sprawl: doesn’t work environmentally or economically. Unlike densification, which, done right, is sustainable environmental, economically - and socially

In case they need reminding, I’ve compiled a list of all the times Doug Ford and his housing minister Steve Clark said they wouldn’t touch the #Greenbelt (caution: long 🧵 ahead):

Mark Evans Good question: who wants a gigantic bldg for private SPA/water park on the waterfront instead of a free public park? Who wants it in any PUBLIC space, anywhere? Who wants to spend over $300 million tax funds to build a parking bldg for the private SPA? Doug Ford for the people?

Biden investing $1 billion federal funding for freeway removal projects. Opp. for John Tory to adapt concept, tear down Gardiner, do Blvd (sideWALKS, bikelanes, trees...), gain $1 Billion, build 8,000 homes, connect magnificent Waterfront Toronto. Not too late. Do what is right.

I used a 12" telescope to capture the aftermath of a star meeting its violent end. Supernovae are one of the most incredible spectacles occurring in nature. This image shows the incomprehensible forces blasting away the surrounding nebulae and creating this beautiful structure.

4of4 - NOT TOO LATE FOR ONTARIO PLACE. It should have been done 3 yrs ago... now we must do it: move the private SPA to parking on Exhibition Place, build a gorgeous PUBLIC park on Ontario Place. It can still be win-win for Ford, TO, & PEOPLE all ages & backgrounds.
