Checking Goshawk sites is well and truly underway. Photos taken with phone and honestly that is a female sat on eggs in the close up! All under licence.

Ian from our #YorkshireDales #NationalPark Wildlife Team and Hill Top Farm discuss the pressures on #Curlew and how we can help 🙏 Play your part by reducing disturbance to their nests; stick to footpaths and keep dogs on leads during nesting from now until the end of July.

We used some spare digger time to create a new wetland feature on the reserve. This low ground usually collects water during wet periods and so should make a good ephemeral pond. Looking forward to seeing how it develops 💦🐸🌱

We found 10 lapwing nests in the end and worked with the farmer to protect them. It took him 2hrs longer to plough the field but he said it was worth the extra effort. 4 nests have hatched so far, the rest shouldn't be much longer. #partnershipworking

Amazing gig at the Bristol Beacon tonight: Johnny Flynn and Robert Macfarlane flowing words and music together. Love the magic these two weave - including the wonderful music for Digging for Britain of course!

With plenty of clear skies in the forecast, there is a good chance of seeing the Aurora across the northern half of the UK, and perhaps further south with long exposure photography 📷 However, as the nights are shorter, the duration of any sightings may be limited ✨

First yellow rattle seed of the year in our meadow! #Rhinanthus Remember if you collect your own, sow as soon as possible & do not dry! You can always scarify the area you sow now with a rake in September if needed in thick swards.

Purple Emperor caterpillar fully coloured up & ready to go into hibernation yesterday (in pre-hibernation), the second earliest date on record. It had little choice as its tree was 99% bare due to rampant Willow Rust (a leaf pox that rampages in wet summers).
