Chiffchaff Nest: a miracle of waste disposal. The young are now fed at a rate of once every 2 mins. Poo is removed from the nest with astonishing efficiency. The parent waits momentarily to see if a rear is going to appear at the entrance, with a parcel for pickup & dispersal.

The female Blackbird drops by at the weedy pond to pick-up some of those nice finer rootlets for the nest lining. She appears concerned that no potential predators are observing her nest-building... Have you signed-up to this important survey?: bto.org/get-involved/v…

The Ant-Eater. I noticed this Blackbird patrolling along the bottom of an old wall, which had been cleared of nettles prior to maintenance work. Spring is never a good time to be disturbing a potential nesting habitat like that but in any event, the bird was busy mopping up ants.

The Trout & Heron. The angles of refraction carefully calculated, the Heron sets off to stalk luncheon... "Fresh, Mayfly-fed, Dorset chalkstream Brown Trout" was on the menu. In the event, it was unavailable.

Nightjar Nirvana… One of the RBA team was very lucky to find these roosting Nightjars at Denny Wood in the New Forest recently. They were very high in the canopy, they spent most of their time shuffling around and at one point one burst into song!

So many Skylarks nesting in the headlands of this cereal field. Only 6m wide but what a difference it makes - Adders & Grass Snakes in the nearby hedgerow. Come on The Labour Party Steve Reed MP Our kids don't deserve Silent Springs because you were disappointing short-sighted fools.

Adders mating in the hedgerow of this same field margin back in the spring. The Labour Party Steve Reed MP If you continue to put nature on the back burner, then don't expect my vote at the next election. You are disenfranchising so many natural Labour supporters Labour DEFRA

Scarcely spotted flycatcher Why is a once-common summer migrant becoming so hard to find? Catrin Eden profiles the stark decline of the UK's Spotted Flycatcher population: bit.ly/45t1Txt

These 4 young Goldfinches fledged yesterday & have now flown the nest. What a week it was - worse things happen at sea? The tree was buffeted by very strong winds - how they managed to remain in the nest, I'm not sure. They remained unperturbed - a Resolute rather than a Charm...

And now....every bush & tree in the garden seems to have a young Chiffchaff hiding in it, all calling constantly & begging for yet another caterpillar.
