Before I was a Council Member, I was a The City University of New York student. CUNY is where I found myself and learned to lead. I would not be where I am today without the incredible experiences I had at CUNY. I am proud to stand with PSC/CUNY today to send a clear message to Mayor Eric Adams: #NoCutsToCUNY.

Whose CUNY? Our CUNY! CUNY graduates 1/3 of NYC’s teachers & 1/2 of our nurses. It’s the single greatest engine of upward economic & social mobility we have. So it’s on us to make sure it’s fully funded. Glad to join PSC/CUNY CUNY Rising Alliance today to really for #APeoplesCUNY.

Columbia & NYU make $1.2B+ a year from their endowment but are exempt from $327M in property taxes. Meanwhile, at CUNY's York College, ~20% of classes were canceled this month due to budget cuts. We need to REPAIR the relationship between these private universities and NYers.

At yesterday's hearing w/ Adrienne Adams Brad Lander I questioned why there are cuts to The City University of New York in the city budget despite NYS increasing funding #NoCutstoCUNY! I also wanted to ensure NYCHA tenants with rent arrears get the assistance they need to stop any potential eviction.

As a member of the Higher Education Committee & a The City University of New York grad, I understand how important our state's public universities are to close the opportunity gap.

We simply can’t afford drastic cuts to CUNY. As I told Errol Louis (@errollouis.bsky.social), The City University of New York includes Six of the 10 top schools for socioeconomic mobility.

Thanks to The City University of New York Hunter College for the tour of their dorms at 51st & Lexington this morning. It’s important to be informed on the student experience at our public colleges. Students deserve to have high-quality, affordable places to live & learn.

𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗖𝘂𝗼𝗺𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗬𝗖 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 As Governor, Andrew Cuomo instituted Tier 6 pensions, which forced PSC members and other state employees to work longer and pay more into the pension system to retire.

Cuomo vetoed legislation to protect The City University of New York & SUNY - The State University of New York funding three times, refused to fund public-sector union contracts, and tried to cut a half billion dollars from #CUNY’s state funding. To protect CUNY in this election, rank 5 candidates and do not rank Cuomo.

Brad Lander is with some of Cuomo’s biggest haters this morning: sexual harassment activists Lindsey Boylan, Charlotte Bennett and Erica Vladimer, state Sens. Gustavo Rivera and Liz Krueger, and Peter Arbeeny, whose father was in a nursing home and died of COVID.
