Had fun presenting this work at #AGU2018 & it's now published in The Cryosphere We suggest that losing the lower sections of Petermann Glacier's ice tongue won't impact much on dynamics, but calving events closer to the grounding line are likely to increase flow speeds & ice discharge!
Fantastic first paper by Jade Bowling, who looked at >500,000 km of icebridge flightlines to identify over 50 new subglacial lakes beneath the Greenland Ice Sheet. @icers_SU Nature Communications @sheffieldgeog Lancaster University @RadioGlaciology nature.com/articles/s4146…
Inspired by Ed Hawkins #ShowYourStripes, here's 50 years of global glacier change! 🏔️ Purple➡️orange = more➡️less ice. #colourblindsafe
Only a true cheapskate spends 2 hours in the library to print their thesis to within 4p of the free university library credit! What a tremendous feeling it is to have it submitted! Thanks to all that helped get me here NCL Physical Geog IAPETUS DTP

The Greenland ice sheet 🇬🇱 is losing mass at an accelerating rate since 1990. However, we show in a new Science Advances study that the runoff increase is much stronger in the North than in the South: a thread [1/n] advances.sciencemag.org/content/5/9/ea…
It's always a powerful message when a model predicts what can be seen in the observations. Ice shelves are like the great flying buttresses in Gothic cathedrals. If they collapse, the whole edifice is in danger of coming down Northumbria Uni Scripps Glaciology bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…
Our Geog & Env Sciences researchers are working on a major £4m EU study on how #climatechange can cause a tipping point in #Antarctica that would cause a major rise in global sea level. They explain more about it in this great video @TiPACCS_EU #AntarcticTipping youtube.com/watch?v=gD7N8Z…
Did you know that ice sheet models are just slowly starting to be directly integrated into climate models?! Check our new EGU Cryosphere @egu-cr.bsky.social post where Konstanze Haubner explains you why that’s the case and why coupling ice sheet models to climate models can be tricky. blogs.egu.eu/divisions/cr/2…
