Very pleased to say that Loki has successfully passed his annual licencing after 2 days of assessments with South Yorkshire Police. He’s now qualified for a further year to be an operational #FireInvestigationDog 🐾

We’ve have a birthday boy in the house today 🥳 Happy 3rd birthday to our amazing Fire Investigation Dog Loki 🎂 He’s had a great day celebrating with his friends 🐾

In November last year he became 42nd recipient of the PDSA Order of Merit, in recognition of his lifetime of dedication and hard work. Deputy Chief Fire Officer said: “Reqs faithfully served alongside his handler Nikki Harvey for 11 years prior to his retirement last July. 2/🧵

“During his time in the service he attended 500 fires, to help identify the presence of flammable liquids, which will have helped with criminal convictions. “Today we pay tribute to a valued colleague, and we send our heartfelt condolences to his handler Nikki Harvey.” 3/🧵

Watch Commander Nikki Harvey, who worked with Reqs for over a decade, described him as a committed member of the Fire Investigation Team and a beloved family member. 4/🧵

“His achievements over the course of his career show just what a remarkable dog he was, and I feel privileged that I got to share his life – training and working with him, taking him for long walks, watching him play with his toys and enjoying his retirement.”

We are incredibly sad to share the news that dear Retired Fire Investigation Dog Reqs, who we knew and adored, Fire Investigation Dog Loki, has passed away. Reqs was an absolute legend, and the recipient of PDSA Order of Merit and we had the privilege of attending that celebration

We're saddened to hear of the loss of one of our friends this week. When you work together for so long the loss is felt deeply. The thoughts of everyone East Mids Fire Dog are with Nikki and her family

Tributes have been paid to one of Britain's longest serving fire dogs, who has died. Reqs was awarded a medal for his 11 years of service last year. Herts Fire & Rescue said he would always be remembered as a dedicated and hard-working member of their team.

Today we remember Firefighters Wornham and Miller who lost their lives in service during a fire at Harrow Court on 2 February 2005, and Natalie Close, who tragically died. 1/🧵
