Would recommend all partake. Confidential feedback, and while it feels like it will fall on deaf ears what I appreciate even more having left medicine is the insane extent to which NCHDs let things slide. As the saying goes, if it isn't written down it never happened.

Ah changeover weekend. Particular shout out to those stuck on call over the weekend then scrambling to move across the country. Could of course be managed better for all involved but that's nothing new.

Used to love this. "We've half of the West Coast in A&E, please prioritise all discharges as a matter of urgency." Aye, cheers Cathy, was just going to let Dave and Mary chill on the ward another week playing cards and smoking cigars.

First week of changeover done (or nearly done for those on call). Fair play to all NCHDs in what is an incredibly stressful, chaotic time, huge respect. You deserve better, always have, but after COVID all those involved should've sat down and taken NCHD conditions seriously.

It's time to replace terms like "junior doctor" & "non-consultant hospital doctor (NCHD)" in Ireland as well. Especially NCHD, one of the weirdest & most disrespectful job titles around. However, I'm not sure “resident doctor” is the best replacement. bmj.com/content/386/bm…

A few weeks ago a friend in a surgical specialty worked a 24 hour (wound up being 28 hours) shift on the Friday, Sunday, was expected to stay for clinic on Monday and was then on until Tuesday morning. So that's 72 hours rostered + extra, let's say 80 total, in a 96 hour period.

Ooh it must be new government time. Going to employ a trillion doctors? Absolutely. Going to stop grinding frontline workers to dust? For sure! This time the promises won't fall flat? You betcha. Can't wait to tell all my friends coming off 24+ hour shifts!
