In this piece in C&EN (Chemical & Engineering News) other scientists and I were asked about the issue of #pharmaceuticals that are #PFAS, and how we have to start the conversation about innovation towards mineralizable substitutes that could help phase these (and other) persistent pharmaceuticals out.

#TFA is a global threat. In Environmental Science & Technology Journals we argue that its unprecedent rise to be the most dominant #PFAS in water, blood and plants, along with what we don't know about chronic impacts, require #precaution and #innovation for lowering emissions. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…

In this ES&T perspective, Hans Peter Arp discusses the potential long-term, irreversible impacts from the rapidly increasing #emissions of #TriFluoroaceticAcid and calls for immediate action to reduce emissions of TFA and its precursors. #OpenAccess: go.acs.org/byr

We showed environmental chemist Hans Peter Arp footage of plastic recycling plants in Malaysia where society's poorest people work with no protective equipment, & asked what sort of chemicals they might be exposed to.
