The biggest congratulations to Magnus Carlsen for winning his fifth World Championship match!! It’s always an honor to cover greatness, and Magnus continues to leave no doubt that he’s the best player in the world. We all are fortunate to see Magnus compete.

Massive congratulations to Nodirbek Abdusattorov!! The Uzbek wunderkind defeated his co-leaders and is the deserved World Rapid Champion, youngest in history. Kasimdzhanov inspired a nation, and Nodirbek demonstrated that like Firouzja he’s not just the future: he’s the present!

The #FIDECandidates begins Friday, but sadly I won’t be with the Chess.com team to start. I’ve been recovering from COVID, and thankfully it’s been days since it felt like an elephant was sitting on my head. I look forward to joining in Madrid. Until then, see you in chat!

It’s a true honor to coach the US Chess team at the upcoming #ChessChennai2022 Olympiad. But first, I’m very excited to head to Mumbai for the match between Anish Giri and Vidit Gujrathi. Thanks so much to ChessBase India Sagar Shah for allowing me to celebrate chess with India!

Congratulations to @jenniferyuuu for demonstrating exceptional resilience to first rebound after a tragic bishop blunder against Krush in round 12, and then do the same in the Armageddon. US Women’s Chess Champion for a second time! Couldn’t be happier for such a great person!!

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes and commentary compliments!! Really means a lot to be able to do what I love and help people enjoy and learn chess. My parents got me this fantastic card, but does anyone notice a small problem?

Ding Liren earned the World Championship by demonstrating courage as defined by Ernest Hemingway: grace under pressure. Amiable and humble off the board, Ding showed true brilliance and class throughout the match. Massive congratulations!!!!

Gregory is incredibly humble and kind, he deserves every recognition and then some more. Do check out his best game in the article, it’s a blistering attack. Among others, fantastic wins over Anand (1987) and Onischuk (2002). Nothing but my deepest respect, this makes me happy!

Truly a must-watch, super emotional interview. Chess benefits when more people can take part in the biggest events, like in tennis. Speaking of tennis, Eduardo Iturrizaga discusses his love for the sport, and his tattoo actually matches Stanislas Wawrinka, who is an inspiration for him!

Novelty of the year candidate from GM Daniel Dardha. Sacrifices a piece in the opening like it's nothing, unleashing a devastating attack. Demonstrates the importance of correct capture sequences, as Alekseenko had to take on d5 with his bishop to force the trades. Amazing!

What remarkable resilience from both Gukesh D and Tan Zhongyi. Gukesh lost a heartbreaker to Firouzja, then immediately recovered with a commanding win over Vidit. Tan lost to her compatriot Lei Tingjie and also bounced back in the next game. Congratulations to both winners!!!

At a pub quiz tonight, each team was tasked with making something Olympics-related out of Play-Doh. Say hello to my fiancée’s “The Hitman”
