You can be all for Trump in principle but still hate Musk. Musk is not doing this because he's inspired. He's doing it because he thinks Trump is dumb, old, and/or out of touch, and he's positioning himself as the real power and successor. He has a knife in his pocket.

I love the '31 Jekyll and Hyde; and when it was screened at Il Cinema Ritrovato in 2023, as part of the Mamoulian section, it rocked the house.

"Directed by Molly Bernstein and Philip Dolin, ART SPIEGELMAN: DISASTER IS MY MUSE is a remarkably cogent and compelling presentation not just of Spiegelman’s life story but also his personality and art." Read Glenn Kenny's four star review: rogerebert.com/reviews/art-sp…

We asked some of our regular critics to pick their favorite Gene Hackman performances. These ten don't even scratch the surface of his varied and vast filmography, but they are performances we love deeply. rogerebert.com/features/10-gr…

ONE TO ONE: JOHN & YOKO creates "a compelling portrait of two famous artists sitting around watching television. Until something they saw on the television compelled them to revive their activism." Read Glenn Kenny's review: rogerebert.com/reviews/one-to…

Henry Fonda was such a first-rate actor that seems to be relatively little discussion of how gorgeous he was. Which is by way of saying that I am back MUBI Notebook after a long absence, writing about Alexander Horwath's fascinating HENRY FONDA FOR PRESIDENT. (link follows)

I'm so happy to be part of Criterion Collection's 4K release of THE BIG HEAT, with a video essay about its women—great characters played by Jeanette Nolan, Dorothy Green, Edith Evanson and Jocelyn Brando. Most of all, I got to write about Gloria Grahame in possibly her best role.

The 1950s are underway at MoMA Film's "The Lady at 100" Columbia retrospective, with Gloria Grahame and Lee Marvin at their greatest in Fritz Lang's immortal THE BIG HEAT (1953) today at 4 pm. I just spent a lot of time watching this one over and over, and it only gets better.

suddenly just remembered that the Dilbert guy married an insta thot who immediately disappeared into an insta-thot-shaped cloud of dust going "meep meep" as soon as her 2 year prenup pension was vested. queen

One of the reasons I came to my first Cannes was to celebrate turning 50 soon so I kinda see renting a tux and going to the world premiere of a Spike Lee movie as a birthday present to myself. Gonna be a memorable day.
