This senior faculty member at Columbia University learned about NYPD entering campus from *student-run radio.* I still haven't been officially informed. Unless you count the text alert telling me to 'shelter in place' and threatening 'disciplinary action' for 'non-compliance.'

If you're following Columbia, turn on WKCR right now-- it seems like the cops are cordoning off even public streets and there are no legal observers allowed in, but NYPD counterterrorism units are massing. Listening to the police state prepare to pounce in real time, ghastly.

A question I'd ask the American political elite is how many students and professors are you willing to beat into a pulp in order to shield Israel from perfectly legitimate criticism based on widely shared principles?

Burt Young is unforgettable in such era defining films as Chinatown and Rocky. A character actor in the best Hollywood tradition.

This film moves like a WB/First National precode. It packs more into one hour than most directors manage in three today. Like a Wellman film, it's also a brutally frank social comment. Shimizu's use of dissolves within a single shot to signal temporal change is utterly singular.

Terrific movie, with certain elements in common with an American pre-code. Especially Yumeko Aizome; she has a small part but I adored her.

Wonderful, bittersweet little movie and Simmons/Newman have palpable chemistry that will make you wish they did more films together. Highly recommend recording!
