A parent with a 1 year-old and a 2-year old in England, paying an hourly rate for 40 hours a week for childcare, could see their disposable income fall by £14.5k if their pre-tax pay crosses £100k. A parent in this situation on £130k would be worse off than one earning £99.9k.

The audacity to suggest it’s acceptable for working class communities to have physician associates instead of actual doctors. The working class built the NHS, in no small part to ensure equality of access to qualified doctors, irrespective of class or wealth.

Season 3 of my #TipsForNewDocs 1) The Discharge coordinator is the fiercest of all the ward staff. If you can defeat them in combat, the rest of the ward will accept you as their new pack leader, giving you the pick of the NHS bourbons and toast

NHS job interview can put IMG Doctors off their feet as they may not have encountered the questions before. One common question which IMGs can struggle with is when they are asked How do you practice as a safe doctor? or What are the attributes of a safe doctor? Some

What an incredibly uplifting story. 19 young Afghan women have just arrived in Edinburgh to complete their medical degrees. They'd lived in fear for their lives ever since the Taliban took power. All credit to the LindaNorgroveFoundation 👏👏👏🩺 theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

20 years ago as I was finishing medical school, physician assistants (as they were then called) were sold by those in power as a solution to removing the significant admin & service related tasks from junior (resident) doctors.

This is absolutely frightening… An active job advert for a PA to be oncall for acute stroke patients out of hours Strokes are life-threatening medical emergencies! They expect the PA to take these emergency referrals, diagnose them, make decisions about their management &

These new extra-contractual rates in University Hospitals Birmingham are abysmal. The average hourly rate for a plumber is £50 per hour. For an emergency plumber it is £112.50 with a £110 call out fee. Massive withdrawal of locums is the only answer to this.

This is a much more honest and accurate description of PAs, their education, & how they can be safely part of a medical team. Not the “generalist specialist medical model” nonsense from NHS Employers that obfuscated how undertrained PAs are for the roles they were deployed into.

It really is hard for anybody not in medicine and paying close attention, to fully understand how badly this generation of UK trainees is being treated and how profound the effects will be

Let me predict where this is heading: 1. Wes Streeting will shut down external applications ergo IMGs applying for training posts. And the exams too. 2. There likely will be a ‘pass’ for those IMGs already in system. Maybe. 3. Non-training posts will prioritise local grads -

It's time to address the many complaints that resident doctors have about their working conditions. Access to a desk and PC to undertake administrative work, a kitchen with adequate facilities, lockers for storing personal items etc. should be standard in all NHS hospitals.

Somehow a lot of folks have got together And managed to create a narrative that being a doctor of medicine is elitist and one must avoid such titles Nah. You worked hard, you did the hard yards, you are trained beyond what others are Feel proud to be a Doctor Remember

Why don’t ya all in NHS England Workforce, Training and Education just admit you introduced PAs to replace doctors / plug gaps and then messed up your calculations as you forgot to coordinate with GMC re PLAB exams & numbers? And now bar shutting out IMGs- you have no other way left to accommodate local

I absolutely get the frustration many pts feel about having to repeat their 'story'. What initiatives like this ignore is that The Story is THE cornerstone of any clinical encounter. Before I see any pt I have formed a preliminary opinion based on the EPR 1/

Unless someone unequivocally in last few hours/mins of life, it is very unwise for doctors ever to answer the question (under some pressure to do so) "how long?" Be clear that person nearing end of life but avoid imprecisely guestimating n(days) No end of trouble can result
