Prairie dogs can be found in many locations around Custer State Park. They are very attentive to their surroundings as I understand there are a number of other animals that would like to make them a meal!

From time to time, while monitoring their surroundings, some of the Prairie Dogs do the Wave! They suddenly jump up on their hind legs and make a loud noise. It's fun to try to anticipate when they might do it.

Quick, can you name the four Presidents on Mount Rushmore? There's George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Don't forget to look ahead when you drive through some of the tunnels!

What a treat to see Sharp-Tailed Grouse. And the male was doing his dance to attract the females. I'm told some American Indians get one of their dances from this.

These animals have very large heads. It's hard to understand why some people think they can get close to them and not risk being injured.

Near Stuart Island, in the Canadian Discovery Islands (east of northern Vancouver Island) eagles gather to feast on Hake fish migrating north for feeding. The strong tidal currents in the area force them to the surface where the eagles sometimes fight over who gets the catch!

I'm in Madera Canyon, Arizona which is a great place to see and photograph birds. Here are a couple Broad-billed Hummingbird images I was able to capture.

On the left, the mighty Rivoli's Hummingbird reaching lengths of 5" with a wingspan of up to 7.5" and weighing, yes, 0.2 oz.!! On the right, the always beautiful Broad-tailed Hummingbird reaching lengths of 3.7", a wingspan of 5.2" and weighing a mighty 0.1 oz! Enjoy!

One reason to come to Madera Canyon, Arizona is for the variety of hummingbirds. This one is a female Anna's Hummingbird. She seemed to want to pose for me!

Meet the Rivoli's Hummingbird. This is a large and magnificent (that used to be it's name) hummer with a lot of great color. Look how the color shows up more as he turns toward me.
