Field teams from Atlanta Botanical Garden and SC Botanical Garden visited populations of #Magnolia pyramidata in South Carolina, finding significant flowering on mature individuals. They'll collect seed later this year to increase genetic diversity of the species' ex situ metacollection

Progress continues on a Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund supported project to survey & update #IUCNRedList assessments of Indonesian #Magnolia species. Last month BRIN Indonesia researchers surveyed 2 sites in West Sumatra, located mature individuals, and collected seedlings of Magnolia sumatrae.

With Franklinia Foundation support, SalvaMontes Corporation conserved 3 threatened Colombian Magnolia species. Teams climbed trees, used mesh grids to protect fruits, collected wild seed, developed propagation protocols, and outplanted 261 seedlings into suitable habitats.

The Atlanta Botanical Garden welcomed Dr. Francisco Sánchez Parrales from Jardín Botánico Padre Julio Marrero last week to discuss ongoing work in Magnolia conservation in Ecuador. Francisco also spent time learning with Atlanta's seed bank team.
