Prison is a dangerous place and its horrific conditions can be triggering for anyone. Even so, more than 40% of people behind bars in severe psychological distress have not had mental health treatment. The carceral system is no place for people who need health care.

It's your weekly video! Wanna find out how much $$$ police unions have poured into protecting bad cops and fighting reforms that might keep YOU safer?

Timely, from Emily Galvin-Almanza. Portland Police Association's current contract expires in June 2025. There are likely negotiations going on behind closed doors now. But who knows? x.com/GalvinAlmanza/…

Police are just not capable of keeping our kids safe, even when they know there is a threat. This child begged for help and all he got was policing.

To understand why things are happening, it’s always helpful to examine where the money is coming from. Proposition 36 in California’s upcoming election would dramatically expand prison, and look at the cash behind it:

Someone pointed out to me that this video doesn't touch on qualified immunity - and it doesn't! Because qualified immunity is a legal principal police can take advantage of *above and beyond* how their contracts protect them, which this video tells you all about.

America has these things called pharmacies that dispense medicine. The methadone lobby is successfully convincing lawmakers that pharmacies are capable of dispensing every drug under the sun but methadone. It’s an absurd argument. politico.com/news/2024/09/0…

I don't use Pomodoro, GTD, or those normal productivity methods when I'm stuck at work. Instead, I am currently doing what I call the Alice In Wonderland method, where I just keep eating things hoping one of them will make me smarter.

One thing for people to toss around in their heads is why police unions are always on the same side as large corporations. It's a helpful observation about the purpose of police/prisons for people who don't have time to learn the history of how modern police forces started.

Ron DeSantis is *sending cops* to the homes of people who signed a petition to get abortion on the Florida ballot. This comes the same week that the Florida department of state requested information on 36,000 voters who signed the Amendment 4 petition h/t Rep. Anna V. Eskamani, PhD 🔨

What have Minnesota Democrats done since 2022 (with just a one-vote majority in the state Senate)? we've published 3 pieces at Bolts since last year on big *voting rights* reforms in MN, all signed by Tim Walz. 1️⃣ A law ended prison gerrymandering: boltsmag.org/minnesota-ends…

Loving all of this except the weird choice to use "prosecutorial" when what they mean is just like... prepared? In the way you would want the vice president to be prepared?
