Last Friday there was a conference to consider Horace Barlow's work and its ongoing impact. Of all of his papers, most speakers focussed on two (below). Strikingly, these two papers contain no models or experimental data,

This amazing preprint from Johann Bollmann lab is about the exciting discovery of a corollary discharge signal in the optic tectum of zebrafish that suppresses visual processing during self-motion! These are incredibly difficult experiments, and I was happy to be a part of it!

Happy New Year everyone! ICYMI, my review of the year in neuroscience makes for perfect slumped-on-sofa brain food link.medium.com/pIAaQEr57vb

We know there are differences between the left and right sides of the brain, known as brain asymmetry. But it’s not yet clear how or why this comes about. Stephen Wilson and ibianco from UCL aim to find answers, with support from our Discovery Research Awards ⤵️

🚨 Job alert 🚨 Research technician position! Come and join the Wilson Lab and Karin Tuschl lab at UCL zebrafishucl.org to study zebrafish models of neurometabolic diseases. ucl.ac.uk/work-at-ucl/se… Closing date 18 Oct.

The Rihel lab is recruiting! If you are interested in coming to central London to study the interplay between brain asymmetry, sleep, and autism genetics in the zebrafish, apply here: ucl.ac.uk/work-at-ucl/se…

Happy our paper on corollary discharge in the #zebrafish visual system is out! Locomotion modulates visual processing via synchronous synaptic inhibition. Great work Ahsan, Katharina, Steffy and Chintan! Katharina Lischka Chintan Trivedi Faculty of Biology - University of Freiburg Nature Communications rdcu.be/drPzm

Check out our solution for imaging the 25% of neurons normally obscured by the eyes. Simple to deploy on existing rigs - just add a mirrored micro-prism!

A thing we did finally came out nature! 100% the result of the extraordinary vision and hard work of PhD student Anya Suppermpool, who slogged through years of thankless technique building before making some important sleep discoveries. nature.com/articles/s4158…

science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… Really happy for this great story to be published - new insights both into the development of brain asymmetry and into the Wnt signalling pathway. Thanks and congrats to all authors of a very collaborative study!
