Unusually ranty from me this week, but few things make me more angry than the hypocrisy on show from some of these protestors. The book world is full of trustafarians - now they’re objecting to people’s access to the arts being funded by investment funds, too.

Assume signatories won't now sell books on Amazon, from which they want Baillie Gifford to divest, or at Waterstone's, which is owned by a private equity firm. Otherwise, this is empty posturing.

9. Groupthink Plough your own furrow. As a great man said ‘conformity is the enemy of rigour’. In my experience groupthink is becoming more rather than less of a problem in newsrooms

Every year, our lovely German friends send us lovely German wine. Last year, a £20 excise fee slightly spoiled it. This year, the fee has doubled to an unjolly 40 nicker. I guess should ask myself why I need German friends. Couldn't Brits perform this unsavoury task? #brexitland

Congratulations to Pàdraig MacAoidh [Peter Mackay] on his appointment as Scotland's new Makar (National Poet). Pàdraig is the first Scottish Gaelic poet in the role. He recorded Crann-cuinnse [Quince Tree] to promote the announcement. You can read his poems here 👇
