Overflight time again. This time in bad weather: low light, low clouds, wind, and rain. We got what we could and hopefully have a reasonable overview of the situation. Hopefully better weather and better data soon.

The first helicopter overflight of Kīlauea's new SW rift zone eruption site at 6 AM HST on June 3, 2024 showed lava fountaining from 1 km (0.5 mi)-long fissures and volcanic gases blowing downwind. See the latest eruption update & Alert Level changes at usgs.gov/volcanoes/kila…

A few site from our seismic deployment in central Iceland last week. All 15 stations deployed and ready to record ground motion for the next 2 years! Given the roads were still closed due to snow at the start of the trip this is a brilliant achievement- well done team!

Have you done geoscience fieldwork while pregnant? Would you like to share your experience with others to help them decide if it's the right choice for them? I'm looking for personal experiences to publish in a joint article - DM me if you'd be interested in contributing

All eyes on #Kilauea’s upper East Rift Zone. Magma moving from summit into UERZ (~1,500 EQs July 22-25 & changes in ground motion). What's next? Look to the past. Of the ~50 intrusive episodes in past 50 yrs, only 5 resulted in eruption. #VolcanoWatch ow.ly/Yev850SLbse

Large glacial flood in Southern Iceland causing the ring road towards Vik to be damaged & closed. Source is underneath Myrdalajokull glacier best known for the #Katla #volcano. No sign of potential #eruption but roads and tourist attractions in the area closed as a precaution.

Hér má sjá fyrstu 20 mínútur eldgossins á 30 sekúndum. Innviðir eru ekki í hættu miðað við upphaf eldgossins. Benedikt Ófeigsson hjá Veðurstofunni segir að gossprungan sé norðan við vatnaskil og því renni hraun ekki til Grindavíkur.
