US Supreme Court says GOP can gerrymander anything they want. Eliminates VRA. Virginia Supreme Court says Democrats can't (even when the voters vote for it). They overturn the will of the voters.

So Republicans can gerrymander the entire south in a matter of 2 days but when Dems take it to an actual vote (and win) it gets tossed. Great fucking country we have. 👍

reminder that Florida Republicans are redistricting without even *attempting* to amend their constitution because there is only one party in this country that actually believes in rule of law

This goes beyond being a loss of seats. VA Dems, and specifically Gov. Spanberger, sacrificed a ton of money and political capital to pass this. Polling shows Spanberger is already damaged less than a year into her term - and now the map doesn't even happen? Yikes.

So Louisiana throwing out votes already cast to enact a gerrymander is legal, Tennessee deleting Black districts less than a week after VRA decision totally fine, Florida completely ignoring their own state constitution legit, but Virginia putting voter-approved maps in place is

I’m old enough to remember when Republicans in Ohio just ignored court rulings repeatedly and did it anyway.

The best argument re: Virginia decision I’ve heard is this:

April 29: SCOTUS gutted the VRA. May 6: Chief Justice Roberts said the public "wrongly views" justices as "political actors." May 7: TN GOP split a majority-Black district 3 ways. May 8: VA Supreme Court 4-3 rules against Democratic redistricting case. 9 days in America.

important lesson here for the democrats to learn from btw. stop pivoting to the right, you only let more radical forms of fascism in to popular politics when you do!
