One of the most frustrating nights for press access i’ve experienced as a reporter. At Columbia & CCNY, police barricaded public streets for blocks, obstructing journalists from seeing what was happening even from a distance. A policy of exclusion cheered on by Eric Adams’ staff

they’re so fucking impressive. i’m listening right now and it’s the first time i’ve been proud of western journalists in months. i’ve never heard breaking news covered like this, in a community/tag-team way. it’s incredible.

these student journalists are holding back tears on wkcr and endlessly thanking each other. the most difficult moment of their young careers, and potentially their entire careers. we are listening to the birth of a new era of journalists.

I think this is also a good example of the benefits of getting people from a certain community or group (in this case students at Columbia) to cover that community or group.
