Busy carrying out surveys today which took me to prime Bonxie country. They weren’t at all happy with my presence as they pursued their relentless dive-bombing

On Orkney again for Naturetrek. Not a bad first day with Hen Harrier, Short-eared Owl, Bonxies galore, RTD and Arctic Skua bagged. This Australian visitor was bizarre. Others came on a huge cruise ship as we retreated into the wilds. πŸ˜‰

Yep; it was one of those blustery days on Westray, Orkney yesterday, but the seabirds seemed to enjoy it as much as we enjoyed them. Naturetrek

Boom! The diminutive but lovely Scottish Primrose at Yesnaby today, a treat for Naturetrek clients, courtesy of my colleague, John Davis, here again, but on holiday, who did a recce ahead of our visit. Many thanks, John!

What they don't do in this Horizon scandal, as far as I can understand, is ask who was stealing the money by way of what seemed like a computer fault, and where that money went. Where's the missing money? Who was manipulating the system? In China?

Just a quick constitutional over the quarry and - BOOM! Lesser Emperor adds to an illustrious list of finds on a site still owned by Tarmac. Time they handed over to people who want to look after it and make it a proper nature reserve...?

Found two Broad Scarlet dragonflies at Oude Maas, south of Rotterdam. Difficult to find a database of European records, so not sure whether they are rarities here...? Apologies for the poor quality shot, but time was short and couldn't get closer.

Triumphant Naturetrek clients enjoyed one helluva day on the Scotland's Mammals tour yesterday. The Basking Shark was the first seen by the Skipper in ten years.

Well, she left it late, but finally, on the last evening of the tour, this little lady finally showed in the backyard of the Ardnamurchan Bunkhouse for all Naturetrek clients, even if some did have to come out in their pyjamas ro see her! 🫣

First full day of Naturetrek autumn in Portugal tour, staying in Tavira with salt pans around the hotel. Visit to Ria Formosa NR yielded this Chameleon high up in an olive tree.

Out on the Alentejo plains with a traditional Portuguese banquet for lunch, the bird of the day was this fine young Spanish Imperial Eagle. Also on the day: Griffons, Cinereous, Bonelli's Eagle, Osprey, Short-toed Eagle & Honey Buzzard. Naturetrek

After all the time I'd spent in bright sunshine on all my trips this year, it was mildly frustrating not to get better shots than this of the Baird's Sandpiper I found on blustery South Uist last week in poor light. One day, I'll get me a proper camera...
