A 2% wealth tax on assets over £10m could raise £8.6bn from the top 40 billionaires on the Sunday Times Rich List alone. That could cover the cost of keeping PIP disability benefits AND scrapping the two-child benefit cap. So why make cuts when you can tax the richest instead?

The UK's welfare system is not generous: spending fell well below the average for high-income countries in the 1980s and never recovered. Leaving people on PIP or UC in poverty is holding back our economy, not to mention the impact on society. We need to invest in people.

The world's wealthiest have gotten wildly richer, but the public have seen little benefit from this. This money could end global poverty, fight the climate crisis, and build a better world – instead billionaires like Bezos are using it to hire Venice for a 3-day wedding.
