IMHO: It doesn't take long to become dependent on Chatbots/Gen AI for 'brainstorming', work & communication. Then your cognitive skills begin to erode, just like with any repetitive addiction that takes shortcuts & evades the difficulties of original thinking & real feeling.

This is “the technological wedge” - it gets inserted between people & the world, initially as a novelty. Then the more that the wedge is pushed in, the more people depend on the tech, the more separated they get from a world that they can only experience through the technology.

“The goal of academic training is not to solve problems as efficiently and quickly as possible, but to develop skills for identifying and dealing with novel problems, which have never been solved before.”

My students are now becoming openly upset with me for upholding my AI policy because “none of my other professors care.” This demonstrates the importance of both faculty solidarity and administrative support, but those are both pipe dreams.

"Over four months, LLM users consistently underperformed at neural, linguistic, and behavioral levels. These results raise concerns about the long-term educational implications of LLM reliance and underscore the need for deeper inquiry into AI's role in learning." Thx to Chris M

i love being a writer in the time where the entire ruling class and a bunch of troglodyte utilitarians are trying to wipe not only your humble way of life but also the concept of reading and writing writ large from the face of the earth

A key point in Fahrenheit 451 is that books were banned because they made people depressed and uncomfortable. The novel's protagonist, Montag, is taken into custody after he reads a poem that makes a woman cry because she realizes the emptiness of her life.

AI therapists should not exist. Text-pattern predictors - which is all that AIs are today - should not be giving anyone life guidance. If you put your sanity in the hands of these algorithmic slop generators you can expect both dangerous & nonsensical advice.

As someone whose job is mostly researching and formulating arguments, I cannot emphasize this strongly enough: no it absolutely does not.

Everyone is so anti- being uncomfortable and it’s why we’ll never progress as a society bc no one wants to face what’s wrong with themselves or with the world. Great literature is supposed to make you reflect and feel things you’ve been repressing. That instigates change.

The government are demanding you hand over your ID and biometric data to random, unvetted companies incorporated in places like Seychelles and Cyprus. If they sell 100% of this data on the black market the government has no teeth in those jurisdictions to prosecute. Go check

Hope ppl understand the only reason this is being pushed everywhere is to remove internet anonymity completely by tying your online activity to your government ID

I can’t believe Spotify now requires age verification. Today it’s music, tomorrow it could be books, films, or even news articles. It's the first step into a dystopian reality we’ve seen in movies, where access to culture is gated by surveillance and the illusion of security.
