Govt is pursuing proposal to restrict parents’ choice to “tailored list of settings”. Assumption that if you make specialist provision harder to access, mainstream schools will fill the gap. In reality, children with greatest needs are likely to fall through this gap. #SENLawConf

Tania Tirraoro FRSA - Special Needs Jungle Special Needs Jungle Golden ticket?? Parents have to challenge unlawful practice to get EHCPs that their children are entitled to. They then have to review and challenge a lack of provision via the tribunal and judicial review processes. All just to give their children an equitable chance in life.

Not really a surprise that LG & SC Ombudsman receives and upholds more complaints about education/children’s services than any other service area. But even we are stopped in our tracks at the news that 92% of families' complaints about SEN provision & EHC plans are upheld.

Don’t blame children with SEND and their families for councils going bankrupt. If local authorities provided the support children need (and are legally entitled to) first time, maybe £60m wouldn’t be wasted on tribunals each year – with 96% of these finding in parents’ favour.
