Pesticides should only be used where no alternative exists, we can control weeds in cities without pesticides. Using pesticides on roadways and pavements leads to run-off and water contamination. Sign this sensible petition to ban urban pesticide use. pesticidecollaboration.org/go-pesticide-f…

Farmers have to use IPM and do all sorts to minimise pesticide usage. While county councils just reach for the bottle because it's the most convenient option. Yet another example of double standards for pesticides and farmers.

I'll be talking at NatureFest at Airfield Estate on August 17th. Will be on a panel about wildlife-friendly gardening and then leading a pollinator walk and talk. Get tickets at airfield.ie

Good commentary on PFAS usage in pesticides, and their environmental effects. Co-formulants being kept secret doesn't mean they're all nice friendly substances, it means we don't if some of them are toxic forever chemicals. doi.org/10.1289/EHP154…

Fantastic project at UCD, great funding body, great project! Come join Darren in a project that'll build on some super exciting work we've been doing lately on bumblebee's response to pesticides.

Banning pesticides in towns just makes sense. We can control weeds without them, and it’d make our civic spaces safer. Proud to support this initiative. theguardian.com/environment/ar…

If you could stick a bunch of sensors into a bee colony placed out in farmlands, what would you want to measure? I've got temperature, humidity, colony weight and bee entry/exit down, but I imagine there are other metrics that'd be super interesting. Thoughts?

New blog from me!! A step-by-step guide* on getting your science paper glued to the front of a pesticide company's door in a protest! (*ok not quite, but an interesting dissection of what SciComm on social media actually looks like). appliedecologistsblog.com/2024/12/04/sci…

ATTENTION ECOTOX PEOPLE: We wrote a primer on bee and pesticide science! Specifically written to be an accessible short guide for post / undergrads. It explains all the basic lingo and concepts in simple language. Dara Stanley doi.org/10.1111/1365-2…
