Audre Lorde said, “I see protest as a genuine means of encouraging someone to feel the inconsistencies, the horror of the lives we are living. Social protest is saying that we do not have to live this way.”

This on the heels of that essay on June Jordan and Lorde and Rich, in which Etel Adnan is mentioned, the namesake of the prize for Arab American poets. Which Hayan Charara and I launched a decade ago. The hacking and haunting is relentless. Will you speak up?

Just to put this win into context: Arshad Nadeem didn't even have enough money to buy a new javelin. He didn't have proper coaching or a training facility. His village banded together to raise money to send him to the Olympics. Arshad’s win is cinematic.

NEW: How is Harris campaigning differently from Biden? aden barton and I have a piece out today that answers this using data from speeches, ads, and campaign emails. Harris has quietly ditched the Biden campaign's focus on democracy. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/…

I fucking love it when Dujie Tahat writes prose about poetry; even in a short riff, they show off (compliment) [from their intro in the new anthology Here to Stay, on overlaps of ghazals + raps, careening, etc]

If you ever teach the ghazal as a form in English (or think you might one day) I highly recommend making a note to include this short prose piece & also Sarah’s exquisite essay “The Pen, the Throat, the Ear: On Ghazals”

The Palestinian right to self determination was erased by the British with the Balfour declaration which mentioned civil & religious but not political rights. The Dem party is making a tragic mistake in 2024 perpetuating this erasure of the Palestinian story & voice.

Liberals justified #NABJ Headquarters ✊🏾🖊️🎙️💻 📷 🎥 📝 🔈 platforming Trump’s racism during our convention because of “both sides”, “tradition”, and exposing his racism. Today, people justify DNC erasing Palestinian voices, while Israeli hostage families spoke. This too, is exposing liberal racism.
