This is true not just of Penn students, but grown adults too. I’ve been in groups of people in Fishtown whose first instinct to get to CC is uber rather than the L right above their heads. This deference to Uber for locations that can easily be reached via SEPTA needs to end

Honestly this is kind of where I'm at. Treating big cities like a state's piggy bank then telling them to pound sand when it comes to public transit funding while demanding all sorts of public subsidies for rural silliness....to hell with it.

Between this, tariffs, fighting congestion pricing, and just generally being pro-rentier, when was the last time we had a president that was basically the Georgist anti-Christ? nytimes.com/2025/04/24/cli…

ICYMI: Georgetown Law students made a 853-row spreadsheet of Trump-caving firms. It drew national headlines. Recruiters noticed some talent looked elsewhere. Firms lobbied to change their designation. An organizer tells @AllRiseNews the background allrisenews.com/p/skadden-stud…

It'd be nice if Comcast (and therefore other sports teams) had joined the PA Transit For All Coalition as well. The 9pm curfew will prevent fans from using trains to get home from almost all games and events, seems like a big deal!

This train of thought becomes less compelling when confronted with the reality that everything we have ever built has faced this choice over and over - every town, every city, was hewn out of the wilderness - most of Philadelphia was built on top of grand country estates

As Mayor, I’m going to deliver 1,000,000 homes across our city. To put that in perspective, there’s roughly 1,000,000 in Brooklyn right now. It’s a big deal — and it’s going to lower the cost to buy or rent.

I’m convinced the main reason the US doesn’t feel like a wealthy country is cars - the obvious cost of owning, maintaining, storing, and building the entire world around them AND the less obvious cost to public health of car culture like obesity, lost leisure time, etc.

Scott Sauer said it and the evidence bares it out: SEPTA is one of the most efficient transit agencies in the country despite underfunding both locally and at the state level. What Harrisburg republicans should be asking is how Philly Dems will help grow app.criticalmention.com/app/#/clip/pub…

State Rep. Manny Guzman (D., Berks) has a red Mario hat on. I asked him why. "It's Mannnn-io," he replied, in a fine facsimile of the digital Italian plumber/turtle fighter.

I just learned that PA subsidizes horse racing to the tune of $200M per year. That's very close to SEPTA's shortfall ($213M). PA Senate Republicans need to explain why they think $ is better spent on racing horses than moving people. wwww.septa.org/fundingcrisis/ thecentersquare.com/pennsylvania/a…

News: The Pennsylvania House has passed a bill to increase state transit funding by, and double that hike by 2028 unless lawmakers adopt a different solution, with bipartisan support. It goes to the state Senate amid a ticking clock for SEPTA and other agencies across the state.

Children that work in markets in India are good at maths when a customer makes a complicated request, but bad when facing an abstract maths problem as presented in school. Children that don't work in markets show the opposite pattern. Very cool. nature.com/articles/s4158…
