Today I gave my first face-to-face lecture since March 2020. There was a hall full of real, live, people. I bellowed, I gesticulated, I thumped the projector screen. There was applause at the end. Long live the lecture.

None of your friends or colleagues interested in narrative theory? Weird, but that's okay. You can join this online reading group for monthly discussions of each section of the Routledge Companion to Narrative Theory. Routledge Literature

Cruelly robbed by a hernia operation of the chance to host the awards lunch at @issn_2023, and to refer to myself as el presidente, Mr President or POTISSN, I will nonetheless be on line tomorrow with my dream team of Maria Mäkelä and Dorothy Hale for our session #Narrative2023

Finally, the author copies of my latest book have arrived. Now it is a real thing. A nightmare to write, but teeming with brilliant insight, this is not a book I want to read ever again, but you definitely should, at least twice. Thanks to all the The Ohio State University Press people.

I am pleased to be a literary interloper in a foreign discipline with this latest article of mine, which analyses how the phrase 'control the narrative' reveals a crisis of authority in journalistic discourse and shapes political reportage. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/14…

Here's my latest poem, agonistically parodying the biographical note as identity formation. Thanks to the endlessly terrific Cordite Publishing Inc. for giving me a voice. #poetrycommunity #poetry cordite.org.au/poetry/treat/b…

I'm pleased to be part of this collaboration between the Aarhus and Tampere mobs. Thanks to the editors for all their work. You could download the free open access ebook, but why would you when you can purchase this expensive hardcover instead?

Brian McHale is the winner of the 2025 Wayne C. Booth Award for sustained impact on the study of narrative. I will have the privilege of presenting the award to Brian at the Narrative Conference next April. People, you want to be there. I guarantee that you want to be there.

The hottest ticket in town this month is the book launch for my new collection of poetry, Lines of Desire (Puncher and Wattmann , 2025). Come along for cheap wine, poetry performed the way it should be, awkward book signings, and celebrations into the night: betterreadevents.com/events/lines-o…
