This is a huge problem. When it comes to medication and especially SSRIs, my position is generally ‘whatever is useful for you’. However, we desperately need GP and healthcare providers to speak about, help manage and empathise with withdrawal effects.

Because they don't. Older ones did, but 'side effect' lists are made up of those reporting effects. So if people at the time believe vaccines caused autism (thanks Wakefield) people would have reported it thinking their child's autism was caused by the vaccine.

Two reasons this is awful. Firstly, to frame Laura Delano as BPD in the first place, when he's never met her, but also to have these awful stigmatising views of people who do have BPD/EUPD. I don't think this is called being 'pro psychiatry', it's callrd being an arsehole.

I always wonder if therapists/psychologists also see the booming therapy business, in selling talking cures for everything, as part of this problem? Or, is it the other way round and more people are seeking therapy, which has led to it's growth? 🤔

And on this, when people say that neurodiverisity is 'cult' movement (or something to that affect). Neurodiverisity is just a descriptive word for explaining that new two humans have the exact same brain. All humans are neurodiverse.

I'm told, on good authority, that this book is a 'warts all' and balanced look at the different experiences people have. Not read it yet, but im optimistic.

Why 'dropping the disorder' is a contradiction if you also still see people's psychological distress as a problem that needs an intervention to fix, particuarly if that intervention is still clinical. psychiatrymargins.com/p/the-overdiag…

All we can do is form educated opinions of what evidence is available and our own experiences. We cannot deny the experiences of others or what helps them. No one has the right answer. But the person who thinks they do, definitely has the wrong one.

Thankful for the increased visibility of conditions like autism, which meant mine was picked up and was able to be diagnosed. While it didn't take back thr years I lost struggling and not knowing why, it means I can now seek help and work on things, like this fantastic book!

Having a disability being a defining feature of your identity isn't actually a bad thing and is a product of environments. Disability becomes a point of pride where you have to actively resist hostile environments. Everyone else let's disability define you anyway.

Them: Bring down the paternalist psychiatry practices. They shouldn't have authority over your personal autonomy! Also them: You don't have a disorder, what you have doesn't exist, and you shouldn't make it part of your identity.
