I think what the old guard have failed to grasp is that speaking collectively is no longer regarded as a strength. Fatima Payman crossing the floor is true strength, and demonstrating that strength casts the Labor caucus as a solidarity of cowards, no matter how 'long-held'.

Life expectancy in Oz improved in 2020-21, bucking the global trend, but has significantly worsened since. The single reason for both is pandemic management. Explained in this Burnet Institute submission burnet.edu.au/knowledge-and-… abc.net.au/news/2024-07-0…

The idea that you could decrease infections by increasing infections has to go down as one of the worst ideas in the history of medicine. It ranks up there with bloodletting to get rid of evil humors. Infecting kids also had nothing to do with education, did it.

I don’t think it’s well understood that the number of people suffering from #LongCovid is not just very large, but it’s expanding. It doesn’t have to continue.

(1/x) We often talk about source control in sepsis, but what does this actually look like for a patient with septic shock in the ICU? Some are obvious (e.g. perforated bowel = OR) but others often get overlooked. A 🧵on often missed source control strategies. #medtwitter

Out now! More NAP7 Cardiology patients receiving anaesthesia -often an unplanned event -logistically high risk (remote & unfamiliar environment?) -medically high (>1% of anaesthesia activity vs almost 10% of cardiac arrests) -poor outcomes (Contrasts very much with cardiac

Hi there! Just a reminder that we absolutely crushed seasonal flu and and drove one lineage extinct when we made an effort to mitigate viral transmission. SARS-CoV-2 isn't so easy, but imagine if we cleaned the air rather than only relying on individual behaviour.

Having grown up in NZ and lived in the UK for a year I'm proud (and lucky) to be able to choose Australia as my home. IMO a fair chunk of our advantage is down policy differences, but wealth is probably also significant. 🧵
