Summary: WHO moving forward on airborne transmission (slowly). But language changes seem forced, unnecessary, and only seem to benefit those who were unable to use the word 'airborne' (and recommend precautions) early in the pandemic. 10/

The good: An explicit acknowledgment that COVID is airborne. We've known this from the beginning, but only in the last month has the WHO really stopped hedging the language on this. No apology for the impact of the error though. That would have been nice, if wholly unexpected. 4/

Speaking as an intensive care consultant: PAY SOMEBODY ELSE TO FIX YOUR ROOF. Men over the age of 50 I am specifically eyeballing you here - put the ladders away and get someone who knows what they’re doing. Especially if it’s skates on a 2 story house above a patio. Believe me.

As Physician and Scientist Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly told me tonight, we must initiate the conversation to solve the problem of long covid despite pandemic fatigue.Β  I’m going to stay on this as long as it takes until we get answers.

Another long pause, and more walking. 'This is a very important lesson. You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the endβ€” which you can never afford to loseβ€” with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.'

7/ Yes, no-one has yet come up with even a partial explanation as to why it is only safe for scientists working with SARS-COV-2 to do so under stringent precautions in a Level 3 biosecurity lab, but for your Auntie Nelly, already in hospital, it's just an inconsequential 'cold'🀯

This is so doable, with upside everywhere. Less acute illness from all respiratory transmitted infections, with less associated long-term harms. Less impact of pollutants like bush fire smoke. Less pollen. Lower C02 levels = better cognitive performance. Less absenteeism.
