Rain changed some plans on Wednesday, but there was still plenty of data collection, diving, snorkeling, and an adjusted fiesta night - yum - for Kathleen and the ecotour participants in Roatan! Reindeer on the rooftops? Nope! Just a 4 AM rainstorm. That meant virtually zero in terms of underwater visibility which mean, sadly, no data collection. Underwater video of dolphins does require....being able to see the dolphins! Full blog: dolphincommunicationproject.org/rain-muddy-wat… #rainydays

Friday was the final data collection session for this ecotour and 2025! Despite heavy rain over night, visibility was decent for recording dolphin behavior with the MVA & GoPros; dolphins played w/ blades of seagrass and small pufferfish! dolphincommunicationproject.org/last-day-last-…

We’ve got some more mom and calf interactions! In this clip you can see Teno swimming up to mom and initiating a contact where he rubs against her chin. We love watching all the interactions between these two as Teno continues to grow. Thank you Loro Parque & Loro Parque Fundación!

Savanna joined DCP as an undergrad, continuing for her master’s, both at Nova Southeastern University. With an overall focus on calf behavioral development, her thesis looks at calf-initiated contacts in bottlenose dolphins. #MeetTheTeamMonday #WomenInSTEM #DolphinScience

This clip shows an example of Morgan swimming slowly so her calf can nurse. These slow swims also allow for position changes by the calf. Thank you Loro Parque & Loro Parque Fundación!

In our latest paper we explore the use of six pair swimming positions (PSP) in bottlenose dolphin dyads based on each partner’s sex and age. The patterns observed suggest each PSP could have different functions in dolphin social interactions.
