In a wild turn of events for a student journalist, today, I interviewed Governor Josh Stein Roy Cooper. Read the conversation below — he reveals his Cook Out tray, for those wondering. Video highlights to come. My (pretty surreal) latest The Daily Tar Heel #ncpol: bit.ly/3vN8Gm9

Young Americans have written, protested, organized, and run for office to get the attention of politicians who only offer thoughts and prayers. I stand with them in continuing to take action and repeating my call to Congress: Send commonsense gun reforms to my desk.

Yesterday was my final day as The Daily Tar Heel’s City & State editor. Hundreds of editing sessions, dozens of breakings and a whole lot of long days led me here — so I wrote a farewell column to capture my feelings. My 123rd — and final — DTH byline: dailytarheel.com/article/2024/0…

I couldn't be more thrilled to reintroduce this desk to our newsroom. There's truly no one better suited than Aisha to lead special projects and bring our vision for an in-depth, long-form investigative reporting desk to life.

The majority of the crowd does not appear to be members of the student body, with some UNC fraternities discouraging people from attending prior to the event.

The event is being held at the Chapel Hill Post No. 6 American Legion, about a 15 minute drive from UNC campus. Media has been asked to depart by 9:30, with organizers saying the event ends at that time. Aaron Lewis, American musician, is preforming for a crowd of 100-150.

Picking up the paper today was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had at UNC. I am SO proud of our newsroom - and can't believe the idea I have had since May has come to life in such a beautiful way. This issue holds such important coverage — so give it a read!

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Maya Harris are traveling around North Carolina today as they campaign for Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris. The pair stopped at the Howling Cow Dairy Education Center and Creamery for some ice cream and to speak to voters.

NC is wild. We elected a Democratic Governor, a democratic LT Governor, a democratic Attorney General, and a democrat superintendent of public education and broke the supermajority in the General Assembly, but people still voted for Trump…
