OMG, the AI Winter Break Hypothesis may actually be true? There was some idle speculation that GPT-4 might perform worse in December because it "learned" to do less work over the holidays. Here is a statistically significant test showing that this may be true. LLMs are weird.🎅

I've been working on a new app 🔥 SVGify turns any image into an SVG, right on your desktop. - Local processing, protect your designs. - Fine-tuning and advanced options. - Export code or image file. Currently, a work in progress. #buildinpublic #3Dprinting #maker

I lost my wife to cancer last month — our daughter lost her mother. I’ve hesitated sharing any of this, but there is something I want to record. Fair warning: this is mostly about love.

Breaking News! Code UFB! The first data update for global sea surface temperatures for 2024 was just released, and a new record anomaly occurred on January 4th at 0.73°C above the 1991-2020 mean, beating all the f&%kery that happened in 2023. I may need a bigger y-axis.

Most of internet sites are old Wordpress with jQuery. It just doesn't go away. React had a good month-to-month change. Surprised that Moment.js, deprecated years ago, still is kicking

Regardless of the outcome in the "US Department of Justice vs. Apple, Inc." case on smartphone monopoly allegations, I find this speech commendable. It breaks down complex points into understandable terms while maintaining technical accuracy, especially on developer-related

I think AI agentic workflows will drive massive AI progress this year — perhaps even more than the next generation of foundation models. This is an important trend, and I urge everyone who works in AI to pay attention to it. Today, we mostly use LLMs in zero-shot mode, prompting

There's a new kind of coding I call "vibe coding", where you fully give in to the vibes, embrace exponentials, and forget that the code even exists. It's possible because the LLMs (e.g. Cursor Composer w Sonnet) are getting too good. Also I just talk to Composer with SuperWhisper

Could AI leapfrog the web? Only 37% of sub-Saharan Africans use the internet. Cost is the #1 constraint. In a study with 469 teachers in Sierra Leone, we find AI works better than the web--and is 87% cheaper. (more)
