Great article this month for our STEM ed journal group on creating inclusive classes. Randomly calling on students to share in front of a class creates inequities for students with anxiety. Love the useful alternative suggestions at the end. doi.org/10.1187/cbe.20…

Biodiversity is associated with forest complexity, in structure and composition A reduction in forest complexity = #ForestDegradation Forest degradation is a hidden driver of bird habitat and population declines in managed forests. nature.com/articles/s4155… #3billionbirds

The English Oak (Quercus robur) supports an astonishing 2300 species, of which 326 depend on it for survival. 716 lichens, 108 fungi, 1178 invertebrates, owls, bats, wood warblers, butterflies... I hold in my hand not a single tree, but a community-to-be, a world-in-waiting.

Here's a thing I feel like we don't talk about enough: In a lot of online fields, the majority of the stars are men. Why fewer women? There are lots and lots of reasons, but one of them is: women get harassed and stalked. Sometimes people show up and threaten their lives.

Researchers who study Type 2 diabetes have reached a stark conclusion: There is no device or drug powerful enough to counter the effects of poverty, pollution, stress, a broken food system, cities that aren't walkable, and inequitable access to healthcare. nyti.ms/3SRkKZS

Yesterday, an Air Station Astoria aircrew assisted in locating a cougar on Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach. They maintained an appropriate distance to ensure the cougar and nesting birds were undisturbed. Wildlife & law enforcement officials reported the cougar is no longer present.
