My office is coming together! Now on my wall is a picture of Fr. General Pedro Arrupe, SJ getting a blessing from Pope John Paul II, w/ a line from our founding document: “to serve the Lord alone and the Church, His spouse, under the Roman Pontiff, the vicar of Christ on Earth”

Feeling crazed and enraged by the discussions around Orchid etc and then read Edward Feser’s interaction about it and no longer feel crazed and enraged.

Knowledge, judgment, and expertise are field-specific, and so is BS The way a philosopher will BS in an academic paper to get nonsense past others is different from how an economist or a medical professional will BS. Peer review detects the BS of your peers

To forgive does not mean to deny evil, but to prevent it from generating further evil. It is not to say that nothing has happened, but to do everything possible to ensure that resentment does not determine the future.

I go to a lot of churches each week. You’d be surprised at how often God offers His loving mercy to us. That’s it. That’s His life.

This attitude inevitably makes people isolated and lonely. The therapy-culture idea that you should cut off any relationship once it gets even a bit difficult is so toxic. All meaningful relationships are sometimes draining. We need each other!

“Therefore, invoking Our solemn duty as universal pastor, and that all error and doubt among the faithful may be cleared away, We do with all solemnity pronounce, define, and declare that Saturday is for the boys” —Leo pp XIV (probably)

Framing Leo's (potential, it hasn't been confirmed) move into the Apostolic Palace w/other Augustinians through the lens of "breaking with Francis! restoring tradition!" instead of the significance of the Pope living in intentional community amid a fractured age is a huge miss.

My latest column is up at The Pillar ("The Female Forerunners of Newman") -- and provides a little bit of a clue (along with my last column about the American convert Sarah Peter (1800-1877) -- as to what my planned next book will be about. pillarcatholic.com/p/the-female-f…
