“The fact that nobody was prepared to do this must lead to speculation about morale among the commissioners and their confidence in the commission’s senior staff. It also shows that no commissioner was willing to answer the justice committee’s questions.” rozenberg.substack.com/p/ccrc-leaderl…

Two lucky detectorists find a multi-million £ history-making hoard - and decide not to declare it. What could possibly go wrong? My account of the story behind our new BBC podcast Fool’s Gold independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/…

Anybody looking for a new podcast, I can happily recommend Fool's Gold on BBC Sounds. Who would have thought a podcast about 2 detectorists finding, & disposing of, a history changing hoard could be educational, entertaining, & infuriating all at the same time.

Justice Committee on the CCRC's independence and its relationship with the Ministry of Justice. ‘Independence requires the chair & senior leadership to prioritise and defend interests and constitutional functions of the institution above all. This does not appear to be happening…'

This terrible indictment of the CCRC repays careful reading. It captures the many missteps that have led to such a disastrous place. It is a vital organisation, capable of doing great work, undone by serial errors of judgement - attributable to the MoJ as well as CCRC leadership

An impressive debut as CCRC Interim Chair by Vera Baird on @bbcr4today. Wishing her every success in her mission to revive the Commission and restore its reputation. She seems to understand what is required.

Insightful column in ⁦Law Society Gazette⁩ by ⁦Joshua Rozenberg⁩ on malaise at ccrc. Commissioners in my time fought a long and exhausting battle against the erosion of their role and of independence. I hope Vera Baird can reclaim what was lost edition.pagesuite.com/html5/reader/p…

I know it is unfashionable to say so, but some praise is due to the Criminal Cases Review Commission for its diligent and determined investigation of the iniquitous racist cop DS Ridgewell. The CCRC’s inquiries have now led to 13 injustices being corrected at the Court of Appeal.
