NEW: the UK has had the lowest investment in the G7 in 24 out of the last 30 years. Public investment - eg core infrastructure - can boost productivity across the economy, but it's set to fall steeply over the next five years. To boost economic growth it needs to rise, not fall.

The government’s commitment to invest in decarbonising energy-intensive industries is very welcome. However, we urge caution over the extent to which the government relies on carbon capture and storage (CCS) 1/5

What to make of #Budget2024 ? Reforming fiscal rules, raising investment and increasing tax revenues to support public services all mark a shift in the right direction. Higher investment is essential to overcoming prolonged economic stagnation IPPR Scotland

Important clarification - we have been speculating about whether the compensation for public sector employers due to the increased NICs is included in the £3.4bn for 2025-26 - our understanding now is that it is NOT included, it will be additional and negotiated between HMT+depts

NEW microsimulation modelling from Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Following #Budget2024 and the latest OBR forecasts, we find average disposable incomes are now set to fall across the parliament. By October 2029, the average family is set to be £770/yr worse off in real terms compared with today. 1/

🗳️Voters in Hamilton have shown they want to a fairer, greener future, but can Scottish politicians afford to be complacent? Certainly not. ✅2026 cannot be a contest mired in negativity but a battle for the high ground.
