Eighty years ago today, over 7,000 prisoners of the German Nazi camp #Auschwitz, including some 700 children, were liberated by the soldiers of the Soviet Army. 1,689 days of murder, pain, suffering, and humiliation were over. Today, we all remember. We must keep remembering.

PHOTO OF THE DAY. Shoes On The Danube, Holocaust Memorial, Budapest, Hungary. It honours Jews massacred by the Fascist Hungarian militia during WW2. The victims were ordered to take off their shoes, and were then shot at the edge of the river so that their bodies fell in. (2012).

Last month we heard the sad news that ATA despatch rider Pamela Jordan (née Logsdon) passed away. With a request from her family, I’m privileged to tell you more about Pamela (centre) & her war time service. She was a wonderful lady & shared her experiences with me last year.

In WW2, breaking the enemy's codes was the highest priority. Enter Bletchley Park - a secret estate bought with £6,000 of private funds to crack the "unbreakable" German Enigma codes. Margaret Godfrey was one of the very first women at "the park." This is the story: (a thread)

In the room behind the ground floor windows of this beautiful #Berlin villa, fifteen men met on the morning of January 20, 1942 to discuss and agree upon the murder of 11 million of their fellow European citizens. All Jews. Then they had lunch. #History #WW2

I *really* hope the Auschwitz Museum doesn’t mind, but I’m going to put up snapshots of their online materials because 1) People don’t bother with links 2) There are FAR too many people out there saying the Holocaust never happened 🧵 1/

King Mohammed V of Morocco saved his country’s 250,000 Jews from persecution and death at the hands of France's pro-Nazi Vichy regime during the Holocaust. The king stood firm against ghettoizing and deporting Jews, saying: “There are no Jews in Morocco, only Moroccan citizens".
